Guitarist JUAN MONTOYA Talks About Altercation That Led To His Dismissal From TORCHE
December 16, 2008Before it was announced that guitarist Juan Montoya would be playing his final show with the Miami, Florida's TORCHE at All Tomorrow's Parties, Rhapsody spoke with Montoya about some of his best and worst memories of 2008. In what became his last interview as a member of TORCHE, he spoke about a black-eye inducing altercation that took place between him and singer/guitarist Steve Brooks. "I feel bad — I punched my singer in the face and gave him a shiner," he said. "We both attacked each other and unfortunately we fought in front of our friends that we traveled with and in front of everyone in the club at soundcheck, and it's just something I'm very embarrassed of." Brooks subsequently released a statement saying that "[Montoya is] no longer with us due to ongoing personal reasons."
TORCHE's second full-length CD, "Meanderthal", was released on April 8 through the Hydra Head imprint (vinyl to be released on Robotic Empire). Recorded throughout November 2007 at Godcity Studios in Salem, Massachusetts, the 13-track album is TORCHE's first with Kurt Ballou (CONVERGE, GENGHIS TRON, DISFEAR) at the helm.
